Construction:
Pair one Surf and one Kumquat 2 7/8” square right sides together.
Pair one Surf and one Kumquat 2 7/8” square right sides together.
Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the lightest colored fabric in each pair. To get a perfect diagonal line, align the 45 degree angle marking of your ruler with the left edge of the square, positioning ruler to that the straight edge of the ruler goes diagonally from point to point of the square. Draw a line with a mechanical pencil along the straight edge of the ruler.
Sew 1/4” from both sides of drawn line. You can chain sew the units together to save time and keep your pieces organized.
Once you've sewn down both sides of all 6 of the squares, you can take your chain to your cutting board. Position straight edge of ruler on the drawn line. This should yield a perfect quarter inch seam between your stitching. Cut on the drawn line.
Take remaining six Surf 2 7/8” squares, and cut in half diagonally to make 12 triangles.
Arrange the half square triangles and the triangles as shown.
Sew units into rows, then join rows together. Make four units.
Cut the Kumquat and Red E, F, G, and H, 4 3/16” squares into quarters diagonally.
Cut the White 3 7/8” squares in half diagonally.
Arrange a Red triangle, Kumquat triangle and White triangle as shown in a flying geese shape.
