Saturday Sampler 2014 - Sew and Tell - Block 10

Welcome to Block #10:  Marina, from our Saturday Sampler 2014, Sew and Tell Series.

Our block patterns will be posted around the 2nd Saturday of each month, so check back through the year to make all twelve sampler blocks with us.

Our blocks are 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" (12" x 12" finished)

All seam allowances are 1/4".




Cutting:

A/E:  Corn Yellow:   
A: (1) 4 3/4” x 4 3/4
E:  (2) 4 3/16” x 4 3/16”, cut into quarters diagonally

B:  Surf:   

B:  (2) 3 7/8” x 3 7/8", cut in half diagonally

C:  Kiwi:   
C:  (3) 4 3/16” x 4 3/16”,  cut into quarters diagonally

D:  Orange:   
D: (1) 4 3/16” x 4 3/16”,  cut into quarters diagonally

F/G:  Flame: 
F:  (2) 4 3/16” x 4 3/16”,  cut into quarters diagonally
G:  (4) 3 1/2” x 3 1/2”


 

Construction:

1. Arrange the half square triangle, 2 E Corn Yellow Triangles,  2 F Flame triangles, and 3 C Kiwi triangles as shown.



2. Sew a C Kiwi triangle right sides together with a D Orange triangle to make a half-square triangle unit. 


3. Sew units into segments, then sew segments together.  Make four,







4. Sew 2 B Surf triangles to opposite sides of the A Corn Yellow square.  Press towards triangles.  Sew 2 Surf triangles to remaining sides.  Make 1.




5. Arrange units as shown.  Sew units into rows.  Join rows together.





6. Block should measure 12 1/2” x 12 1/2”.
